Swimming Pool · Skit Evolution

The Swiming pool skit began life as 'The Wrong Response to... Drowning', a macabre subject but we saw the potential when played right for something very funny. The idea began life on a beach, there were three components which contributed to the skit. The first one was the Lifeguard, we went from having him as a hunky Baywatch character, the crazy character of the skit, was scared of water, and/or failed to save the drowning victim in some way, suggests went from being unable to swim, to being scared by a shark fin, to trying to bail out the ocean with a bucket, to taking his time to blow up an inflatable boat.  The problems began to arise when we thought more about the concept of having to create an environment using water. This forced us to consider more options, we had a good formula but it needed tweaking. It was then suggested that the Drowning person become the crazy person; in this scenario, the lifeguard was the serious character. Concepts then went from ideas of...

Character Design · Moom Poses

These are the poses that we will be using for our character design. Each pose is given a personality based off of our script. The lifeguard is a macho man type that's full of confidence and loves his looks, as for the swimmer she's a flirtatious beauty in demand of attention. In the next set of poses, we have the old lady; sweet and innocent and a little bit quirky. Lastly, we have the mischievous robber, always up to no good. Meg will take these and apply our character designs over the top.  Lifeguard Pose/Skit 1 Swimmer Pose/Skit 1 Old Lady Pose/Skit 2 Robber Pose/Skit 2

'The Wrong Response to..' - Character and Prop Design

Below are some of the ideas constructed from our phase of designing the characters and props for 'The Wrong Response to...'. It is important to us that we create props and characters which personality from the first moment of meeting them on screen, but also keeping them stereotypical enough to instantly know what their role in the skit is. We need the props to convey a mood as well as a purpose in the scene. These are our preliminary sketches and digital drawings to cement us an anchor point to our world.   Lifeguard / Swimming Skit Swimmer / Swimming Skit Robber / Robbing Skit

Pre-Production · Thumbnails 1-10

Swimming Pool - Meg Trying to find out how to position the scene for the swimming skit and how simple we can make the water look, so far linear strokes of waves seems to work in #2 and 4#. Robbing Set Up - Meg Out of the robbing thumbnails, #8 presents a really nice set up for a theatrical version of the skit. Airport - Artist / Meg Really rough ideas for the airport skit as it needs more defining and research around the security check process.

Pre-Production · Influence Maps

Art Style For our skits we want to aim for a theatrical, paper cut style. So, we've been looking at various theatre sets and paper crafts as inspiration, this should help us in the concept stage to further define our vision of our animation set up. Since we are restricted to certain things in maya, it's reasonable aiming for this sort of set up as it is simplified enough to be easy to work around. Swimming Act For the Swimming act we wanted to approach a safe environment so we looked at indoor and out door swimming pool's something that is quite public and safe so our act isn't so harmless and the skits punchline can make sense. Robbing Act The Robbing act, for this skit our intended atmosphere is quite roughed up and dark but the skit withholds it's silliness. It's important we keep in mind the cliche of a robber with the striped shirt and mask so his role is recognisable, we are mainly focusing on the corner of streets and alleyways so our rob...

Robbery Skit · Evolution

Since picking our prompt some of our ideas have gone through a lot of different changes. This is just a brief run down of how we developed our ideas and got to where we are at.  Location: Alleyway Street Stage with building and Alley props  Victim:  Victim female Victim becomes the robber and robs the original one (abandoned idea) Mary Poppins like bag, robber keeps pulling more and more ideas out  Banana phone pulled from bag confusing the robber (accompanying chosen)  Trampoline used as another ridiculous object to be pulled out, further confusing the robber  Robber hands balloons to victim which he pulls out her bag and she floats away  Police Badge Pulled out of the bag by the robber, causing the robber to run away ( chosen idea) Robber:   Gets angry and snatches victims bag  Climbs into the bag, disappears and bag gets picked up/taken away  Pulls out police badge, realises victim is a polic...

Draft Sequence · Post-it Notes

Below is the first drafted sequence to help map out the first script and to plan the storyboard. We wanted to make sure all events worked correctly in the order. Prompts · Brainstorming

Today the team got together and decided to work on possible prompts for the final animation. Here are the outcomes of the meeting. The Wrong Response to... ‘I love you’ The characters kiss and they are suddenly able to look at their future together. When they stop kissing they know they could not be together. The character freezes and starts walking backwards until they are at home (reverse). The character runs away leaving a cardboard cut out. They kiss and one character absorbs the other. A Surprise Party The character enters home for their surprise but no one is there. Normal party but all the guests are on the ceiling and the character is surprised. The character opens the door to all his friends and family, but gets surprised and scared, then runs away. Surprise party but when the lights flicker off the guests disappear then reappear when they come back on (continuous loops of "surprise" being shouted). Strangers that actually like to show up at other ...
