About Us

Think about the animations you watched when you were a kid, didn't you think they had a sort of magic in it?

Animancers was born as an animation studio formed by four amazing students at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester with the purpose of making that magic endure over time.

The Name

Animancy is the ancient magical art of manipulating animation, therefore animancers, according to the tradition, are the ones who practice it. We are puppeteers that control the strings.

Logo

The inspiration behind our logo came as the answer to the question of 'what would an animancer wear?'. A hat represents the mind where concepts are born and at the same time is a symbol of the philosophical and magical tradition.

The hands, on the other hand, represent the medium that allows us to get our precious concepts out on the physical plane. Hands are the tools of the will of the mind.

Our Vision

The goal of all animancers is to bring that magic to animation, being capable of giving light positive energies to the public.

The Wrong Response to a Backfired Mugging - Production Art

Character Design · Moom Poses

These are the poses that we will be using for our character design. Each pose is given a personality based off of our script. The lifeguard is a macho man type that's full of confidence and loves his looks, as for the swimmer she's a flirtatious beauty in demand of attention. In the next set of poses, we have the old lady; sweet and innocent and a little bit quirky. Lastly, we have the mischievous robber, always up to no good. Meg will take these and apply our character designs over the top.  Lifeguard Pose/Skit 1 Swimmer Pose/Skit 1 Old Lady Pose/Skit 2 Robber Pose/Skit 2

Swimming Pool · Skit Evolution

The Swiming pool skit began life as 'The Wrong Response to... Drowning', a macabre subject but we saw the potential when played right for something very funny. The idea began life on a beach, there were three components which contributed to the skit. The first one was the Lifeguard, we went from having him as a hunky Baywatch character, the crazy character of the skit, was scared of water, and/or failed to save the drowning victim in some way, suggests went from being unable to swim, to being scared by a shark fin, to trying to bail out the ocean with a bucket, to taking his time to blow up an inflatable boat.  The problems began to arise when we thought more about the concept of having to create an environment using water. This forced us to consider more options, we had a good formula but it needed tweaking. It was then suggested that the Drowning person become the crazy person; in this scenario, the lifeguard was the serious character. Concepts then went from ideas of
